Murmuring reveals that the murmurer has a lack of faith or is shortsighted in his understanding of God’s plan for his children. Not only did Laman and Lemuel fail to “[know] the dealings of that God who had created them,” they knew not God. Elder Neal A. Maxwell taught: “Those of deep faith do not murmur … even while in deep difficulties. … Murmuring … drowns out the various spiritual signals to us” (Neal A. Maxwell Quote Book, 219).
