“The Book of Mormon also talks about things that are in the book of Malachi, about the earth burning and so on (compare 1 Ne. 22:15 and Mal. 4:1; also 1 Ne. 22:24 with Mal. 4:2), and attributes them to a prophet named Zenos. Now, these portions of the Book of Mormon were written before Malachi was written. This must mean that Nephi (with the brass plates) and Malachi (using Old Testament records) had before them the writings of Zenos and they paraphrased them in the things they were writing” (McConkie, Doctrines of the Restoration, 274).
