What can we learn from this brief episode of Moroni seeking and receiving revelatory direction from the prophet Alma?

Thomas R. Valletta

“Alma not only learned gospel principles and doctrines by faith; he also received information on current events. For example, in the year 74 B.C., the Lamanite armies were invading the land of the Nephites. But, says the record, ‘they durst not come against the Nephites in the borders of Jershon. … And it came to pass that the word of the Lord came unto Alma … that the armies of the Lamanites were marching round about in the wilderness. … And those messengers went and delivered the message unto Moroni’ (Alma 43:22–24.) Moroni, acting upon the information, sent his armies into the land of Manti, where they met the Lamanites and defeated them” (Romney, Learning for the Eternities, 77).
