What might be the significance of the three woes declared by Nephi?

Thomas R. Valletta

A wo is “grief; sorrow; misery; a heavy calamity” or even “a curse” and is “used in denunciation, and in exclamation of sorrow” (Largey, Book of Mormon Reference Companion, 835). Any one of the three sinful conditions decried by Nephi would have been enough to topple the Nephite nation. But the combination of all three warranted the dire warning that “ye shall be destroyed from off the face of the land” (Helaman 7:28).
